Ring of Fire (East Java): Intermediate varied XC multi-day
This is a 4-day ride package in the stunning active volcanic region of Bromo in East Java. Riders will be picked up in Surabaya and make their way through fertile agricultural land to spectacular Mount Bromo. The rides begin on the eastern side of the caldera and include fast and sometimes technical single track with views worthy of a National Geographic cover. We cover the Sea of Sand and for those who like the challenge, you can climb to the edge of the smoking Bromo and ride back down. After Bromo, we make our way to Malang, in the foothills of Mount Semeru and do some of the best single-track rides that East Java has to offer. Covering agricultural land and casuarina forest, this ride is a thrill-seekers dream.
Intermediate. Compact soil, sand, single track, tree roots (and some glorious sulphurous wind). Varied terrain with a few thigh burning climbs. For the active rider. Not suitable for those with no mountain biking experience.
Ride time : Approximately 4 hours each day
Route distance : 30-40km (each day +/-)
This is a ride where it’s better to bring your own bike. Bike hire can be arranged but as this requires shipping from Bali there will be an additional cost.
Tours start and finish in Surabaya. Riders will need to make their own way to Surabaya.
Accommodation around Bromo is simple, but expensive as this is a domestic and internationally renowned travel destination.
It is cold around Bromo in the morning. Don’t forget a warm jacket, a beanie and long sleeves for the sunrise rides.
The ride includes accommodation, safety equipment (helmet, gloves, first aid kits), experienced guide, vehicle support, lunch, snacks, water and water bottle, isotonic drinks, and the best brownies you will have ever eaten.
Pick up and drop off
We will arrange pick-up and drop-off at Juanda Airport, Surabaya.
A special itinerary will be developed for you to take into account your special circumstances. Please contact us for a price.
The best time to do this ride is from August through to November between the wet and dry season when the sand is compact, the weather dry and the skies blue. We stayed in one of the local homestays, which was simple and it did get pretty chilly at night. The riding itself was good. We did the Bromo Classic Track, which includes the Sea of Sands and Teletubbies Hill, up Jemplang Hill and the New Zealand Trail. The second day was a fast downhill ride through various farming tracks. Day three was uber scenic. I can highly recommend Ramang and Bali Rides for this tour (Kenneth Koh, Singapore)
