About Us

Who we are :

RamangBali Rides is 100% Indonesian owned.

The company was built by me, Ramang Kristian, a self-confessed mountain biking addict. I commenced my riding training at the age of seven on my Grandfather’s Gazelle bike. I used it to cart green coconuts into town through the rice paddies. The Gazelle has since been retired but my love for biking has continued.

I gained my mountain biking experience in Australia, Bali, Java, Malaysia and Timor Leste . I spent many years as a guide and operations manager for other biking companies before setting up my own business with my Australian wife, Nina.

Our philosophy:

You come first.

Anyone can set up a business to take people riding in Bali.  Many do.  But not like us. We’re personal. We do this because we love it. Riding is our life and we want to share our riding experiences with you., Our testimonials speak volumes – we ensure you have the best experience by:
  • • providing high end bikes with good specs (and no one provides the standard of bike we do!).
  • • providing the best trails possible (we offer the greatest range of trails and are always on the lookout for new ones).
  • • ensuring you get the freshest and tastiest food we can cook (our bread is homemade, our chickens roasted with a family secret spice, and we do a killer brownie).
  • • offering a full and flexible service (we can custom design a tour to suit most needs).
In an effort to pay back the communities through which we ride, Bali Rides works in collaboration with local farmer and women’s groups.

What we do:

When people hear of Bali, the last thing they associate with this tourist paradise is hard core mountain biking. But Bali has a fabulous topography that offers superb mountain biking experiences while at the same time allowing riders to see a side of Bali that few tourists get to experience.

Cruise through our website and see if there is something that takes your fancy. We’re here to please, so contact us if you’re after something in particular (in the mountain biking sphere) that isn’t featured on this site.  We can make rides to measure.

Skill level & Fitness level

Below is an indication of MTB skill level and fitness levels to help you fill in your booking form: MTB Skill Level (we use a score from A to D)
  • A Beginner. Have ridden a mountain bike, but not off-road. So, only on bitumen, main roads, or fire tracks. Have had no experience on rough terrain.
  • B Beginner-intermediate. Have ridden a mountain bike for more than a year and are confident on rough surfaces such as sand, gravel, broken bitumen, compacted soil. You have reasonable bike handling skills – so you can change gears easily, you are familiar with disc brakes – but you can’t go over small obstacles yet and would feel uncomfortable going downhill at any sort of speed.
  • C Intermediate. Have at least 3 years mountain biking experience or often ride off-road and can navigate through a range of terrain including gravel, sand, rocks, and other rough surfaces. You are confident going up steep inclines and steep declines. Are confident on narrow tracks and can manage small drops (for example a single step). You have decent bike handling skills but you may occasionally get off to walk hairy sections.
  • D Intermediate-Advanced. We’re not talking Danny MacAskill, but you are very experience off-road on a range of terrain including gravel, sand, rocks and other rough surfaces including deep tire ruts, roots and small obstacles. You are confident going up steep inclines and steep declines with rough median and at some speed. Are confident on drops of up to 50cm or more and rarely get off and walk rideable sections.

Fitness Level (we use a score from 1-3)

1. Relatively fit. Train (on a bike or running) at least once or twice a week. You can ride at a relaxed pace for 2-3 hours and you could tackle two or three 200m climbs a day. 2. Fit. Train (on a bike or running) at least 2-3 times a week. You have a good level of fitness and can ride up to 4 hours a day at a reasonable pace. You could tackle two to three climbs of up to 400m in a day. 3. Very fit. Train (on a bike or running) 3-7 days a week. You can ride at relatively quick pace for up to 4-5 hours a day. You could sustain long strenuous climbs. You would be the type to do the Tour de Timor, or the Cape to Cape, or maybe the Cape Epic.
