about

For those who have limited time on the Island, Bali Rides provides a range of cross country (XC) single day rides.  We have easy rides for those with beginner level mountain biking skills and then a range of intermediate to advanced tracks where we expect riders have a higher degree of fitness and technical capacity.

All of our rides have vehicle back-up and where possible we like to keep the ratio of guide to client at 1:3.  We will try and match the skill and fitness of clients so there’s not much waiting and everyone gets an enjoyable day.

If you happen to choose the wrong track,  all of our routes have short cut options, which can bring the level down.

There may be times where you’ll have to lift and carry (meaning you lift and carry your bike, not us lift and carrying you!).  And depending on the season, be warned that your feet may get muddy.

Beginner/Easy Rides

Ubud Loop

The easiest of the beginner rides, we start from the centre of Ubud’s art and crafts district and meander on a single track through fields of alang-alang grass on an impressive ridge and then on a single track past picuresque rice paddy field views.  The ride includes single tracks, jeep tracks, a little mud (depending on the weather), and unkept asphalt through small villages.  There is some riding on the road and a few ups that will challenge the thighs and thrilling downs that will get the wind on your face.  The ride ends back in Ubud near the famous Ibu Oka’s spit roast.

Abuan village to Ubud

This route is slightly more challenging than the Ubud Loop ride.  It starts in the hilly region of Kintamani and begins following a jeep track through market gardens growing tomatoes and cabbage.  The ride takes us through rice paddies on single track, bushland and via numerous villages.  There are lots of nice downhill runs and a few challenging, but short climbs.  The ride has some tarmac.  It’s a fun and exhilarating ride for beginners or those wanting an easy ride.  The ride finishes in Bali’s art and café district of Ubud.
